During a dharma talk words seem to just flow from Michael.  They seem effortless.  What is even more powerful is to watch him interact with members of the community during an open question period.  He can point to the very heart of a question revealing what is truly wanting to be expressed.  He does this in such a loving and respectful manner that all in the sangha are able to see what needs to be seen.

Dr Michael Sapiro changed the direction of, and truly saved my life. My work with him started on the yoga mat where he was my instructor and then grew to one on one sessions with him to dive deeper. His work with me was truly transforming. I was going through painful and challenging times in my marriage and just learning about one of my daughter drug use. I simply had no idea how to actually be with, and experience the emotions I was feeling. He introduced me to breath work practices and showed me how my mind was always wanting to talk about what was going on as a way to numb the feelings. It was my work with Dr. Sapiro that allowed me to slow down, feel my body, feel the emotions and stop my mind. I became more aware that my mind, and my constant need for words and talking about things, was perhaps one of the most toxic aspects of my life. I learned how to breath into the feelings and not push them away by using the numbing tools of distraction, rationalization, food etc. I am still an infant on the journey, but thanks to Dr. Shapiro I am on the path!! As a teacher Michael embodies all of the paradoxes.  He is both scientific and intuitive, strict and fluid, deeply serious with an even deeper sense of joy and laughter.  He can sit with you in your darkest places and hold the moment in deep compassion unflinching, both a witness and a healer.  He willing exposes his own weaknesses in a show of strength. He shares his follies as easily as his successes. Michael is human, he embraces it all that he is, and in doing so he shows us a way to accept our own paradoxes, to love all that we are.
